Leviticus is frequently passed off as an unimportant document of out-of-date details. Because the book is directly related to Israelites under the Mosaic Law, many Christians today choose to ignore its contents. But God has preserved Leviticus for a particular purpose.

“He is also head of the body, the church…so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything” (Colossians 1:18). If we were to put this verse into one overriding statement, it would be this: take God very seriously.

Sometimes we seem inundated by laws and rules, but whether or not we like them they’re usually there for a reason. The same goes for God’s Word. He gives us laws for our protection and well-being. When we go against God’s laws we find ourselves living with regret, disappointment, and heartache.

When people treat us unfairly, we want to get back at them in some way. But when we take the high road and don’t give in to our desire for revenge, the blessings are immeasurable.
